Noel Gallagher has revealed he lost so much money in pursuit of solo success following Oasis’ split that he didn’t dare admit the expense to his wife, Sara MacDonald.
Speaking to Loaded magazine in their last ever issue, Gallagher said he lost “a f**king s**t load of money” before cracking the chart with High Flying Birds, whose second album, Chasing Yesterday, shot to number one in its first week.
“Everything I’ve done since I left Oasis has come from my own pocket. You’ve got to pay for the tour, got to pay for the wages and you don’t really break even for about nine months,” said Gallagher.
“I don’t mean I lost money. I mean I lost a f**king s**t load of money. It was a few million, like. I had to lie to Sara at first, and when I eventually did tell her, she freaked out – I mean freaked out.”
High Flying Birds are about to embark on a tour of Asia, featuring gigs in South Korea and Japan.
