Steven Knight is a prolific fellow.
Not only is he responsible for Peaky Blinders, the excellent Tom Hardy-in-a-car drama Locke and the terrific Eastern Promises, he is also one of the co-creators of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Seriously, that’s one of the best pub trivia items going. The guy who made Peaky Blinders also gave Chris Tarrant the most iconic role of his career.
He also helped pen the very messy screenplay to this year’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, but we won’t hold that against him too much.
Especially not with the news that he’s teaming up with Netflix and Jake Gyllenhaal for a movie about a crazy-sounding heist.
Deadline reports that Gyllenhaal will take the lead in The Helicopter Heist, based on the book by Swedish author Jonas Bonnier.
The true story centres around a daring 2009 robbery in Stockholm that saw four men pull off an incredible heist, stealing $6.5 million that has never been recovered.
The events of the robbery are quite complex and fantastical, despite it happening in real life. We won’t spoil them for you here, as it really does sound like the plot of a great film.
Hopefully, Knight and Gyllenhaal do it justice.
No word on a release date just yet, but it’s probably more likely to arrive before the sequel to World War Z, which Knight is currently attached to as writer.
