This is eerie.
The Metal Gear Solid franchise is possibly the daring and innovative series in all of video games. As well as popularising the stealth genre, creator Hideo Kojima has never been content just making straight action games. Every entry in the series has been filled with them of political intrigue and conspiracies, and Kojima has even said in interviews that the games’ storylines are meant to “question US dominance of the world”.
This week, however, one scene from 2001’s Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Playstation 2 has gone viral. The clip is one of the Codec scenes, where the protagonist Raiden remotely communicates with The Colonel.
Despite being 16 years old, many people have said the conversation is incredibly relevant to 2017, and it has been shared over 12,000 times. Have a watch and see what you think:

It seems to nail the internet in general:
In this digitised world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all it’s triteness.
And fake news:
Rumours about petty issues, misinterpretations, slander…. all of this junk data, preserved in an unfiltered state, growing at an alarming rate.
It will only slow down social progress, reduce the rate of evolution.
The digital society furthers human flaws, and selectively rewards development of half-truths.
Late period capitalism:
Everyone grows up being told the same thing: Be nice to other people. But beat out the competition!
“You’re special. Believe in yourself and you will succeed.” but it’s obviously from the start that only a few can succeed
And the online echo-chamber that has helped create our current divide political state.
Everyone withdraws into their own small gated community, afraid of the larger forum. They stay inside their little ponds, leaking whatever “truth” suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large.
It became more relevant with time as well, scary stuff

Pretty heady stuff for a PS2 game.
