Tate will be returning as the foul-mouthed pensioner in a feature-length movie

Catherine Tate fans have reacted with joy after the release of the first trailer for The Nan Movie, in which Tate will be returning as the world’s rudest woman.

‘Nan’ was one of the most popular character from the comedian’s hit mid-noughties sketch show, which also introduced the nation to iconic characters such as the never-bovvered Lauren Cooper and ‘posh mum.’

Although the show ended in 2006, Catherine Tate has brought her popular character back on a handful of occasions. But this will be her biggest return to date, with Nan hitting the big screen later this year, on March 18

On Friday (February 18) Warner Bros. released a first trailer for The Nan Movie, which will see Tate star alongside Gavin and Stacey star Matthew Horne, who will play her grandson Jamie.

The film will follow Nan and Jamie as they travel across the UK and Ireland to track down Nan’s estranged sister.

It looks like the film will be pretty par for the course. The trailer shows Nan having it large, telling people what she thinks, and of course, swearing. A lot.

There appear to be some more sentimental moments though as well, with flashbacks to a Nan’s past, and the fact that Nan’s sister is dying.

Many have reacted with joy and excitement at the film.

One Twitter user wrote that they were “roaring with laughter just thinking about it”, with another promising that they would be at the cinema on “opening f***ing night.”

A third said that the news of a film had “made my day.”

A fourth joked that the film would be more anticipated than another of 2022’s most hyped films, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Meanwhile another couldn’t contain their happiness at being “about to live through a Catherine Tate renaissance.”

Actress Georgia Tennant also shared her excitement at the trailer, simply tweeting: “Oh yes.”

Tate famously starred alongside Georgia’s husband, David Tennant, on the fourth series of Doctor Who in 2008.

Fans will probably just be hoping that Nan’s transition to the big screen goes a bit better than Mrs Brown’s did
