You bank on it being him, to be fair
Mister “motherf*cker” himself Samuel L. Jackson has been taken aback after realising that he doesn’t have the record for the most swear words in movie history and so have we, to be honest.
Speaking during an interview on Jimmy Fallon‘s Tonight Show, the Pulp Fiction and Snakes on a Plane star (two of his most iconic and expletive-ridden performances) was surprised to learn that while his swearing stats are obviously very impressive, somebody else holds the record for the most cursing in movies.
As Fallon showcased the list which included the likes of Adam Sandler, Denzel Washington and Al Pacino, Jackson discovered that he has sworn 301 times on screen. However, it turns out that not one but two people have beaten him.
As you can see in the clip, the award for the most naughty words uttered goes to Jonah Hill on 376 and even Leonardo DiCaprio pipped him to second on 361. Of course, his response was “that’s some bullsh*t”. That one doesn’t go on the count, sadly.
So yes, surprisingly, the man you may have assumed was the unofficial king of swearing is actually a good 60 swears off his closest rival and while we’re sure he’ll do his best to bump those numbers, he’s got a fair bit to go if top three keep their pace.
Perhaps one factor is that Jackson has been starred in some more family-friendly films in recent years, his turn as Nick Fury in the MCU being the most notable.
Set to play the role again in an upcoming Disney+ series, we might be seeing more of the eyepatch but the chances of him casually throwing around the F-word are fairly slim.
