This is going to be special.
There’s no denying that Netflix has changed our TV viewing habits, but every so often, they release a new TV show/original film at the perfect moment.
Remember the Christmas period in 2015 when Making A Murderer took over your viewing habits? Also, it’s not a coincidence that the online streaming giant release their new shows on a Friday. Sure, who wants to go outside and socialise anyway?
With this in mind, they’ve released a new trailer for Dark, their eagerly anticipated new show, and much like the previous ones, it’s an absolute cracker.
Like the first season of Stranger Things, the show revolves around the disappearance of two kids in the German small-town of Winden. The investigation ultimately opens abysses that turn the concept of time on its head. The question is not who has kidnapped the children…but when.
Granted, it’s somewhat lazy to compare a new show to something else, but in the case of Dark, its creators are happy to be compared to the work of the Duffer Brothers.
“It’s really exciting because if all those people who watched Stranger Things will at least think about watching Dark, I think that’s a great opportunity for us. So keep comparing it,” they told Deadline.
We’ve kept our eyes on Dark for quite some time now – the original trailer was great, as was the second one – and if the final version is as good as the footage we’ve seen, it’s shaping up to be one of the best shows in 2017.
There’s a very strong vibe of Stranger Things (the plot), Gone Girl (the aesthetic), Black Mirror (the time-bending narrative) and True Detective (the occult element) here.
Dark is available to watch on Netflix from 1 December.
