The first trailer for the new Spitting Image revival is here, giving us our first look at the new puppets in action
As well show including some of the puppets we have already seen, including Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Mark Zuckerberg, we are introduced to whole new set of famous faces.
New puppets include The Rock, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Here is the trailer for the new Spitting Image – NSFW warning though, it does feature puppet genitalia.
The trailer focuses heavily of the double team of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson. In the standout scene, they are hanging out in a sauna. Then Vladimir Putin arrives, who is portrayed as about 3 ft high, and challenges them to a fight. They then all strip naked, for some reason.
Elsewhere in the trailer, we see several public figures being bribed to promote Spitting Image, including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kim Kardashian. Kanye West is seen throwing shoes at the UN after declaring himself rule of Earth, and Mark Zuckerberg stealing people’s phones on a moped.
The new series will air on BritBox from October 3.
The original Spitting Image ran from 1984 to 1996, for 131 episodes over 18 series. At the show’s peak, it pulled in over 15 million viewers and was a national institution. All the high profile politicians of the era were immortalised in rubber, including Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Ronald Reagan. The show also heavily parodied the Royal Family, with The Queen Mother portrayed as swilling down gin all the time.
The show was even spun off into several music releases. Multiple singles were released, including ‘The Chicken Song’, a parody of Black Lace’s ‘Agadoo’, which was written by Red Dwarf creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor, and reached number one in the UK singles chart in 1986.
The show also teamed up with real musicians, producing the video for Genesis’ ‘Land of Confusion’ and getting Sting to record a parody of ‘Every Breath You Take’.
