He doesn't appear to regret his actions at all. The killer that is.

Not a pleasant room to be in.

Lorenzo Gilyard was found guilty of the rape and murder of five women in March 2007, after new DNA evidence reopened the case over 30 years after his first murder.

He is, however, believed to have killed up to 13 women and girls, and is currently serving several life sentences without parole at Missouri’s Crossroads Correctional Facility.

Gilyard preyed mostly on sex workers, picking them up before raping and then strangling them with items of clothing such as shoelaces. The murders took place between 1977 and 1993, but Kansas City Police were given new funding to apply DNA technology to the cases in 2003, which had since gone cold.

This resulted in the eventual arrest and sentencing of Gilyard, who by this stage was “happily married and living a normal domesticated life”, according to Morgan.

When he sits down to question the murderer about his crimes, the killer appears completely free of remorse, stating that “I feel a bit bad, but there ain’t nothing I could do about it”.

Gilyard was convicted for the murders of Catherine Barry, 34, Naomi Kelly, 23, Ann Barnes, 36, Kellie A. Ford, 20, Sheila Ingold, 36, and Carmeline Hibbs, 30, whilst he was acquitted of the murder of 19-year-old Angela Mayhew due to insufficient evidence.

He is also linked to the murders of  Stacie L. Swofford, 17, Gwendolyn Kizine, 15, Margaret J. Miller, 17, Debbie Blevins, 32, Helga Kruger, 26, Connie Luther, 29, Paula Beverly Davis, 21, and an unnamed 23-year-old person, but these were not brought to trial.

Serial Killer with Piers Morgan will air tonight on ITV at 9pm.
