You only have to look at its predictably gargantuan first-week sales figures to know that gamers are absolutely lapping up FIFA 17.
There’s plenty of reasons to get stuck into this year’s edition of the genre-dominating football sim, but the feature that has got the most attention is The Journey, FIFA’s first ever single-player story mode.
We’ve written about Alex Hunter’s quest for Premier League glory here, here and here, and extremely cheesy dialogue aside, we reckon it’s a superb first effort from EA. Everyone who buys the game should give The Journey a playthrough.
Well, everyone except last-gen console owners that it is – because they won’t be able to.
Amazon has been raining furious one-star reviews since the game’s launch, as people who purchased the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions have booted it up to find that The Journey was left out.
So are these people guilty of not doing their research before buying the game, or is there a case for misleading advertising?
Well, we had a quick scan of the Xbox 360 product description and there’s no mention of The Journey in Amazon or EA’s write-ups.
What’s interesting, however, is that Eurogamer reported earlier that the image gallery on the Xbox 360 page contained screenshots from the new mode, but when we checked for ourselves this wasn’t the case. It looks like a bit of emergency editing has taken place. Better late than never eh?
The brand new Frostbite Engine is also absent from the last-gen games, so if you really want to experience FIFA 17 as the developers intended, you’re going to have to have to play it on Xbox One, PS4 or PC.
