The nerve-shredding thriller Berlin Syndrome looks like the worst one-night stand possible

Sex with a stranger. What could possibly go wrong?

With Raw and The Void being released in cinemas over the coming weeks, horror fans will have plenty of titles to choose from.

Coupled with the fact that  Get Out is rightfully earning some incredible reviews, April could be the perfect time to scream in your local cinema and after seeing the trailer for Berlin Syndrome, a new suspense thriller/horror from director Cate Shortland, we couldn’t help but get the vibe of a ‘Hostel’ meets ‘Sleeping with the Enemy’ situation.

Ok, what’s it about?

While holidaying in Berlin, Australian photographer, Clare, meets Andi, a charismatic local man and there is an instant attraction between them. A night of passion ensues.

But what initially appears to be the start of a romance, takes an unexpected and sinister turn when Clare wakes the following morning to discover Andi has left for work and locked her in his apartment. An easy mistake to make, of course, except Andi has no intention of letting her go again. Ever.

The film debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and it currently has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In fact, Variety have said that the director has created “nerve-shredding tension sequences” while others have described it as “unbearably intense”.

Berlin Syndrome is released on May 12th and here’s a taste.
