If you smell….
Even if you were just a casual wrestling fan back in the late 90s and early 2000s, you knew it was all about The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. They were the Messi and Ronaldo of wrestling, two of the greatest ever that happened to both be at the top of their game at the same time.
It couldn’t last forever though – Steve Austin’s career was cut short by injuries, though he’s remained a frequent guest star on WWE TV.
The Rock, of course, reverted to his birth name of Dwayne Johnson, went off to Hollywood and became the biggest movie star in the world, and will probably become President someday.
Dwayne has made a few brief comebacks – he faced John Cena in the main events of Wrestlemanias 28 and 29, and turned up at WM 32 in 2016 to set his name on fire with a flamethrower.
Now rumours are suggesting that The Rock could be making a special one-off appearance at the 1,000th edition of WWE’s weekly Smackdown show, which takes place next month at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
According to wrestling insider Joe Peisich, speaking on the Barnerburner’s Fired Up podcast, “for the 1,000th Smackdown which happens on October 16th, [WWE] are negotiating and very very close to a Rock appearance.”
The first episode of Smackdown aired all the way back in April 1999.
