“In 1922, I murdered my wife…”
Halloween is only around the corner, but there’s no need to wait if you’re looking to give yourself the biggest fright you’ll get all year.
This weekend, Netflix released the trailer for a new film, 1922, an adaptation of the Stephen King novella of the same name and be warned, it’s the kind of thing that could keep you awake at night.
A novella published in King’s 2010 collection, Full Dark, No Stars, 1922 is based on a feud between a farmer, Wilfred James and his wife, Arnette, in rural Nebraska.
She wants to sell a large plot of land willed to her by her father and move to the city, he wants to stay put, leading to an escalation of tension in an already fraught relationship and to Arnette’s death at the hands of her husband and her (reluctant) son.
In the wake of Arnette’s death, Wilfred is haunted by an undead version of his late wife and plagues of rats, which eventually causes him to lose his mind.
If you thought the most recent adaptation of Stephen King’s work, IT, was scary – and it certainly was – then this may also require you needing a new pair of underwear.
1922 premieres on Netflix on October 20.
