Australian TV host, Edwina Bartholomew, has come under fire for accusing Meghan Markle of attention-seeking and telling her to ‘shut up’
Sunrise is an early morning news and current affairs show, much like our Good Morning Britain. Also not unlike GMB, one of its main presenters, Edwina Bartholomew, has been criticised for her comments regarding Meghan Markle. This follows her recent decision not to attend Prince Philip’s funeral following his death last week.
The 37-year-old presenter was discussing the news on yesterday’s show but despite the Duchess having cited pregnancy as the primary reason, according to information received from close friends, it was also because she “didn’t want to be the centre of attention”.
While Bartholomew initially says “she is right, if she had gone there would have been a lot of attention on her and it would have distracted”, she quickly changes course to say that admitting that “out loud” was apparently objectionable.
She then asks, rhetorically: “just go with the Palace line, wouldn’t you, for once?”. Understandably, fans and defenders of Meghan Markle were quick to take to social media and label the presenter a “hypocrite”. You can see the full clip and the reaction below.

She has said nothing. The Mail Online quoted a “friend”. No friend of Meghan’s would ever speak to the Mail online. It is one of the publications they have banned. It’s a made-up friend in a made-up story.

Many people have gone on to express downright outrage, not only at the presenter’s remarks but the show’s apparent track record as a whole. One commenter said “Sunrise and someone called Bartholomew – great contribution to our society – like hell they are.”, while many went even further.
It would seem that like its British counterpart, Sunrise also has a reputation for dividing public opinion. Although it clearly gets viewers and support too, TV presenters like Bartholomew are still happy to contradict themselves by slating individuals for supposed attention-seeking, while using their name to garner views and give them that which they are supposedly looking for.
