Very few graphic novels are as perfect for a TV adaptation quite like Alan Moore and David Lloyd seminal 1980s series that was a direct response to Thatcher’s Britain.
Verifying this news from Bleeding Cool is what Channel 4 will probably be doing in the coming weeks and quite frankly, we’re pumped to see V’s return to a dystopian Britain and his attempt at bringing down a tyrannical government through an elaborate revenge plot.
Who is V?
Well, as stated in the 2005 film that starred Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, he’s a “humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V.
Say that 10 times fast!
Given the recent news that HBO has ordered a pilot for Watchmen, it appears that we’re getting a mini Alan Moore love-in. Here’s hoping that this adaptation of Moore’s seminal graphic-novel gets his seal of approval – he asked not to be credited on James McTeigue’s 2005 film.
With Black Mirror and The Handmaid’s Tale proving to be very popular, this seems like the perfect time for V to make his return.
