The mark left by Satoru Iwata on the gaming industry and beyond has been perfectly illustrated in an animated tribute to the former president of Nintendo.
Iwata died after a battle with cancer last year, which lead to an outpouring of gratitude for how instrumental he had been in turning around the fortunes of the Japanese company during his tenure as president.
After joining Nintendo in 2002, Iwata oversaw the lifespan of products such as the Wii and the Nintendo DS, both of which enjoyed phenomenal international success and rejuvenated longstanding franchises like Super Mario, as well as bringing new IP’s like Brain Training and Wii Sports to the mainstream.
There are references to both of those machines and more in the touching animation, which was played out at the Game Developers Choice Awards in San Francisco.
