Viewers shocked by Death to 2021’s ‘wrong’ Prince Philip joke

‘Prince Phillip withdraws from public life permanently by dying’ #DeathTo2021 was wrong for this one’

Viewers were left shellshocked after watching Death to 2021 on Netflix, most notably because the narrator made a quip about Prince Phillip many have deemed “wrong”.

Starring the likes of Hugh Grant, Lucy Liu, and Tracey Ullman, Death to 2021 promises to combine “the world’s most beloved actors” with the year’s biggest news events.

While the dark comedy has been a hit for many, others have found an issue with a joke made by the show’s narrator – none other than Laurence Fishburne.

He said: “After the interview, Prince Philip withdraws from public life permanently… by dying.”

But it doesn’t stop there.

The Matrix star continued to say that: “Millions watched the funeral of his Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke Of Deadingburgh”.

Twitter has understandably been talking about the Netflix special since its release earlier this week.

One disgruntled viewer wrote: “Prince Phillip withdraws from public life permanently by dying’ #DeathTo2021 was wrong for this one.”

Another stated that it was “incredibly dark”, and a third even stated they turned the special off.

But not everyone hated the joke, with one fan saying that it was her favourite moment.

While another agreed it was disrespectful but couldn’t help seeing the humour:

Similarly, Grease star Stockard Channing took another jab at the Royal Family.

Talking about THAT interview with Meghan Markle, the actress said that it was nice for a royal family member to be interviewed “and it not all be questions about whether they’re a paedophile”.
