Not my words, the words of none other than Mrs. Doyle – the tea-loving housekeeper from the classic ecclesiastical Irish/British comedy show Father Ted.
Written by Arthur Matthews and Graham Linehan, Father Ted focuses on the life of its titular character, Father Ted Crilly, a parish priest on the outpost of Craggy Island.
Ted shares a house with the aforementioned Mrs. Doyle and two other priests, Father Dougal Maguire and Father Jack Hackett.
While Ted is the self-styled brains of the operation, Dougal is a well-meaning idiot and Jack a lecherous and aggressive alcoholic.
Now, the adventures of three priests and their housekeeper does not sound like a recipe for critical and commercial success, but that’s exactly what it was, and once you watch it’s easy to see why.
We got Aurore, our comedy newbie, to watch the show for the first time and tell us what she thinks of it.
