Need some new Netflix and chill content to not watch this July? We’ve got you sorted
With the Euros set to end on July 11th (you know, that thing England will definitely be in the final for), there’s still a fair chunk of the month we need to fill with content.
Lucky for you, we’ve sorted you out a list of what’s new to Netflix UK in July 2021. Whether it’s a new series you’re after or a few good films for movie night, JOE has you covered.
Movies on UK Netflix – July 2021
1 July
- An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky (2013)
- An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)
- Assault on Precinct 13Â (2005)
- Audible (Original, 2021)
- Code Red (2013)
- Crash Pad (2017)
- Dynasty Warriors (Original, 2021)
- E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982)
- On the Job (2013)
- The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave (2016)
- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
The classic children’s tale from Steven Spielberg about a boy and his extra-terrestrial little friend. E.T. will be “right here” (sorry) on Netflix for you to roll back the years on a night in.
2 July
- The 8th Night (Original, 2021)
- Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
- Fear Street Part 1: 1994Â (Original, 2021)
- Haseen Dillruba (Original, 2021)
In a trio of films based on R. L. Stine’s (Goosebumps) original stories, this three-part movie event will be a feature-length limited series that runs until the middle of the month and it looks to play on that classic throwback horror genre we know and love. A good one to get the mates round for – we can do that now, remember!
5 July
- Midsommar (2019)
Probably one of the best horror movies of the past decade, if not longer. Certainly not one for the faint-hearted. Maybe watch with a friend or partner so you can cling onto each other afterwards.
7 July
- Major Grom: Plague Doctor (Original, 2021)
- Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019)
The latest movie Quentin Tarantino‘s line of films and, supposedly, the penultimate before his 10th and final film. Super stylised, sexy and a love letter to cinema as a whole. Definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already.
9 July
- Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
- Fear Street Part 2: 1978Â (Original, 2021) – see above*
- How I Became a Superhero (Original, 2021)
Set in a supernatural, crime-ridden Parisian society, this French film by Douglas Attal follows a world in which humans and superheroes coexist. A lone wolf cop teams up with a brilliant detective to dismantle a dark organization trafficking superpowers. There’s plenty of Marvel stuff out there already, give us this and The Boys any day!
14 July
- A Classic Horror Story (Original, 2021)
- Private Network: Who Killed Manuel BuendÃa? (Original, 2021)
Mate, foreign-language films are where it’s at! We know there’s plenty of good horror stuff coming out in the UK and Hollywood but A Classic Horror Story really doesn’t look like it holds anything back. Playing off the meta angle of showing you genre tropes you’ve seen before, this Italian horror looks both unique and familiar all at the same time.
16 July
- Deep (Original, 2021)
- Fear Street Part 3: 1666 (Original, 2021)
- – see above*
This Thai thriller focuses on sleep deprivation and four students who undertake a medical experiment that sees them trail a new drug called ‘Deep’. Deep by name, deep by nature, by the looks of it.
17 July
- Ali & The Ratu Ratu Queens (Original, 2021)
An Indonesian dramedy that looks to be full of heart, as it follows a young man tracking down his mother years after she left for New York. Written by Ginatri S. Noer and Muhammad Zaidy, directed by Lucky Kuswandi – this one might need tissues at the ready.
21 July
- Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans (Original, 2021)
Guillermo Del Toro‘s full-length follow up to the popular DreamWorks Animation series, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. We’re not ashamed to admit that regardless of whether you have kids or not, it’s a charming little world to dive into and it looks as good as anything animated you’ll see at the pictures.
23 July
- Blood Red Sky (Original, 2021)
- Kingdom: Ashin of the North (Original, 2021)
We’re just gonna say it: this looks absolutely WILD! An airborne thriller/horror in the sky where one of the main characters looks to be some kind of crazy vampire-like creature. We even spotted ‘Linc’ from Prison Break – sign us up!
29 July
- Resort to Love (Original, 2021)
30 July
- The Last Mercenary (Original, 2021)
A French action full of comedic beats that follows a former spy now known as the mercenary, ‘Mist’ – played by Jean-Claude Van Damme – who returns to France to save his son from a government mix-up and a terrorist plot. It might not be the most high-art thing you’ll on Netlfix in July, but it looks fun.
TV Shows on Netflix – July 2021
Now, that’s sorted you for movie night but what about lining up some series to help get you through the evenings on a work night? Oh, we’re so glad you asked:
1 July
- Could you Survive? (S1)
- Generation 56KÂ (Original, S1)
- L.A.’s Finest (S1)
- My Hero Academia (S1)
- Pokemon Journeys: The Series (Multiple Parts)
- Quarantine Tales (S1)
- Rainbow Rangers (S1)
- The Serpent (Limited Series)
- Winx Club (S6)
- Young Royals (Original, S1)
The first series of the hit American cop dramedy is coming to UK Netflix at the start of the month ahead of season two – which was heavily delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic – dropping in the US on the 9th. In case you weren’t aware, its the spin-off series of the Bad Boys film franchise, delivering the detective-driven action genre stuff as we know and love it.
2 July
- Mortel (Original, S2)
3 July
- Dracula (Limited Series)
4 July
- We the People (Original, S1)
Now this is a clever approach to creating accessible and educational content that people will engage with. This unique music event is a limited series (for now) that ropes in everyone from H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Cordae, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bebe Rexha and more.
Created by the Obamas as well as Chris Nee and Kenya Barris, this Netflix original will teach civics to people of all ages through the medium of song and animation. Absolutely class idea.
6 July
- Born to Be Wild (S1)
- I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson (Original, S2)
It seems like there is a thousand and one zany American comedies on Netflix and that’s because there is. However, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson garnered a bit of a cult following, which is why it’s back with a season two; it looks as though Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) is joining the cast too. Worth giving a go at the very least.
7 July
- Cat People (Original, S1)
- Dogs (Original, S2)
- The Mire (Original, S2)
- The War Next-Door (Original, S1)
Netflix’s feline answer to the success of their canine companion show – which, as mentioned above, is also back for a second series – Cat People drops this month, so for all of you fighting it out for kitten corner can chill out now. Both are mint and we are lucky to have these creatures on the planet, how about we just leave it at that?
8 July
- Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime (Original, S1)
- Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (Original, S1)
For you gamers out there, how SICK does this look!? It isn’t the first time we’ve seen entirely CGI productions – it’s big in videogame movie crossovers, anime and Netlfix’s back catalogue, in general – it isn’t even the first we’ve seen with this franchise (there are several Resi animated films already), but this super stylised series looks great.
9 July
- Atypical (Original, S4)
- Biohackers (Original, S2)
- How to Become a Tyrant (Original, S1)
- The Cook of Castamar (Original, S1)
- Virgin River (Original, S3)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsSJ-T-eyGs
If you’ve never seen Atypical before, not only are you missing out on one of the funniest, most tear-jerking, most utterly heart-warming series Netlfix – or TV in general, for that matter – has to offer, but you’re missing on a wonderfully realistic and insightful way to learn about the autism spectrum. This will be the fourth and final season and, yes, I’m already crying.
13 July
- Naomi Osaka (Original, S1)
- Ridley Jones (Original, S1)
One of the new arrivals to Netflix we are most looking forward to is the upcoming Naomi Osaka documentary. This original series looks set to not only follow her impressive career so far but hopefully dip into her life off the court too.
The 23-year-old has been absent from press conferences and Wimbledon entirely, citing struggles with mental health issues which raises the question should athletes have to be subjected to the media barrage when they’re at their most vulnerable.
14 July
- Heist (Original, S1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52TdOMqqeyk
Does what it says on the tin really. This dramatised documentary series follows three real-life stories of high-end heists and feats of robbery, inter-spliced with genuine interviews with the actual people involved. We all love a bit of true crime.
15 July
- Never Have I Ever (Original, S2)
23 July
- Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Original, Part 1)
- Sky Rojo (Original, S2)
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are back after more than 40 years! Incredible stuff. You don’t need to have been part of the generation that grew up on it to have grown up on it – I know I did.
This beautifully reimagined animated series is part one of at least two, each containing five episodes with all your favourite characters returning. Bonnie Tyler on the soundtrack and a live-action film apparently in the works – are we in a dream?
29 July
- Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Kingdom (Original, S1)
30 July
- Centaurworld (Original, S1)
- Outer Banks (Original, S2)
SPOILER ALERT! Kind of. If you watched the first season of Outer Banks you’ll be wise to everything tied and what was left loose, however, all you need to know is that the gang are back with more angsty teen drama, high stakes action and a belting soundtrack. Like the first series, we reckon this will go from being a very easy watch to a surprisingly good one in no time.
What’s leaving UK Netflix in July 2021?
So, that’s it for everything new coming to UK Netflix next month – looks like a decent haul, all in all.
However, as per, there are always going to be casualties when it comes to the next batch of content on any streaming platform. As for what’s leaving UK Netlfix in July 2021, we could be here all day, to be honest. So, instead, we’ll just point you towards this useful round-up from What’s on Netflix if you want to spoil your day with some bad news.
Chin up, guys, we’d wager a lot of them will be back and before you know and, most importantly, there’s always way too much new stuff coming to Netflix every month for you to get your teeth into.
