This is brilliant news
The Venom solo movie coming later this summer continues to be an odd one. Despite Spider-Man now officially being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sonny still have the rights to make films about Spidey and his various friends and foes. And they are pushing ahead with their own Spider-verse, with Tom Hardy starring as Peter Parker’s nemesis in his own film, alongside Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed.
It’s a strange one to say the least – Venom’s whole character relies on the existence of Spider-Man, but he’s not set to be in the film (rumours of a Tom Holland cameo have been circulating though). The lack of Venom himself in the first trailer also worried fans, but the subsequent reveal has already become a meme.
But now, we have some concrete good news about the film: Woody Harrelson is going to be in it. And it is a scientific fact that adding Woody Harrelson makes absolutely any film that little bit better. It appears to only be a tiny role, but still: WOODY f***ing HARRELSON. In an interview with Collider, Harrelson confirmed his small appearance.
I’m just … I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know? So I haven’t read that script, but anyways, just rolled the dice.
The interviewer brought up Venom in an interview about his UK-set movie Lost In London, and it seems his appearance was supposed to be kept secret.
I thought it was under wraps that I’m even in the movie.
And as to who he’ll be playing, we have no official word. But there is a rumour that he might be playing Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, who’ll comic book fans will know as Venom’s biggest foe. Whereas Eddie Brock became somewhat of an anti-hero when he bonded with the alien symbiote, Kasady was a deranged serial killer who only became more violent when he got super powers. And it would make sense for him to appear in a possible Venom sequel.
