For lovers on funny cat videos, which should be just about everyone, we’ve got some very, VERY good news.
Come 2018, YouTube will be doing away with those unskippable 30-second ads.
You know the ones we mean? When you’re just trying to see the clip your friend forwarded on to you of some guy slipping on ice and its absolutely sure to be hilarious, but you must endure the endless, interminable advert first. Are you sure it’s only 30 seconds long? Because it feels way longer. Like, DAYS longer.
Anyway, in an official Google statement as reported by Campaign, “We’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.”
Shorter ads, like the six-second ones that are already doing the rounds, will become unskippable.
What this essentially means is that YouTube will have to come up with another way to get paid for their services without annoying the viewers. According to the Huffington Post, there are over 1,000,000,000 active users on YouTube every month, but the desire to pay for their services seems pretty low, so striking the balance is gonna be a toughie.
While they attempt to figure that out, here are some funny cat videos:
