This is seriously impressive stuff from US powerlifter Leroy Walker.
If you don’t believe how hard it is, then try it down at the gym tonight.
For starters Walker is hitting a 405lbs (183kg) bench press. Then add in the fact that he’s doing paused reps (where you stop at the bottom of the movement and hold).
When you consider that he’s also just casually answering the interviewer’s questions, you realise he is a serious lifter.
He casually tells the guy what he’s had for breakfast, his dinner plans, who his inspiration is, and what motivates him to become a champion…while churning out heavy reps.
Ignore what we said earlier, please don’t try this at home.
You can, however, try paused reps. They are a great way to build strength at a sticking point at the bottom of the bench press movement.
Just a few inches above your chest is often a weak point where a lot of people will fail the movement.
So, by pausing right there, it will force your body to recruit more pectoral muscle fibres so you can power through that part of the movement when you bench press.
