What is this sorcery?
Aldi is launching a gin that changes colour.
I don’t know how it works, I don’t know why it’s even a thing, or even why it is somehow impressive, I just know that yeah, I probably do want some. Yeah.
The magical liquid is McQueen’s Forest Fruits-flavoured gin and is now available from everyone’s favourite German supermarket along with that other German supermarket that is also everyone’s favourite.
Using real magic, and some petals from the Asian butterfly flower during distillation that change colour according to PH level, but mostly real magic, the gin changes from a light blue to pink after tonic is added.
That’s not even the best part, the gin is available for the sum total of £19.99, which is a great deal considering you are purchasing actual witchcraft AND something to ensure you have a good night out/pre-drinks/lonely night in the flat watching Heat on loop.
Unfortunately, there is a catch. There’s always a catch. The gin is only available in Scotland as it stands, although there are hopes for Aldi to roll out the product for the rest of the UK and Ireland too.
If you do manage to get your hands on a bottle, Dale McQueen, Managing Director and Co-Founder of McQueen Gin, suggests adding a squeeze of lime first to see what shade of pink the gin goes, before then adding tonic water to see the gin change miraculously colour again.
Then probably just drink it, I reckon. Yeah. Probably best just to actually drink it after that.
