Who said quality had to cost the earth?
No one, because that’s not a saying, but that’s often the thinking: if you want something top-notch, you have to pay top-whack for it.
In general, it’s true, and there are definitely some things that you should never cheap out on (toilet paper, bin bags, tattoos, life partners). However, a gin from Aldi that costs less than a tenner has not only proved to be quite good, it’s actually proved to be very good indeed.
Aldi’s Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin won gold in the dry gin competition at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. The gin, costing a mere £9.97, beat off competition from other much posher (and more expensive) gins to take the crown.
Joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi Tony Baines said of the win: “Receiving medals for our spirits is a fantastic achievement and it is great to see our spirits range being praised so highly by experts.
“Being awarded a title such as ‘Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range of the Year’ is something that not only reflects the quality of our products but also the hard work that our UK based buying team put into drinks retailing every single day.”
We’ll drink to that – at these prices, you’d be mad not to.
