But this may taken things too far.
Welcome to the world of “deconstructed coffee”, which involves serving coffee in a unique way. As part of your order you receive your coffee, water and milk separately and you have to assemble the drink yourself.
One woman in Melbourne, Australia, Jamila Rizvi, explained on Facebook that she waited 20 minutes for an actual cup before realising that there wasn’t any to come.
She wrote:
“Sorry Melbourne but no. No no no no no.
“Hipsterism has gone too far when your coffee comes deconstructed.
“I just waited almost 20 minutes for an actual cup before realising it would not be forthcoming.
“I wanted a coffee. Not a science experiment. I prefer to drink my beverages out of crockery and not beakers.
“Next stage? I’ll just get a chopping board with a bunch of actual coffee beans and an upside down hat on it.
“This must stop, dear Melbourne.
“This must stop.”
And it appears Jamila’s not alone in questioning this new trend. It has been dividing opinion for months now, with some questioning the new serving technique…
