Football games have changed a lot in 30 years
Believe it or not, but there was a time – before photorealistic graphics and likenesses – when top-down football games were the norm. And amongst all of these, there was one undisputed king: Sensible Soccer.
This game was incredibly popular and remains beloved by those who played it almost three decades after its initial release. But why? Developed by Sensible Software, Sensible Soccer was released in1992 for the Amiga and Atari ST computers, as well as the PC.
While its top-down view was nothing new, its zoomed-out bird’s-eye view helped it stand out. It had customisable teams – international and clubs – and its gameplay was about as user friendly as you could get.
Simple? Yes. But natural and reactive too. This is the story of Sensible Soccer and its incredible legacy.
Sensible Soccer is one of the most iconic football games ever made.
And believe it or not, it’s still going strong today. 🕹 pic.twitter.com/hlTCFS1oCe
