They’re starting to leave.
The controversial religious organisation Scientology has just lost a high profile celebrity. Priscilla Presley, who was married to Elvis Presley, has left the church.
She was a member of the organisation for 40 years but has recently broken free.
She initially joined after turning to her friend John Travolta for help after Elvis died in 1977. John reportedly introduced her to the church and she became a member. She even raised her daughter Lisa-Marie in the church.
Her exit follows her daughter’s decision to leave in 2014.
Back in 2014, Lisa-Marie cited her money and freedom as her reason for leaving. At the time she said, “I was slowly starting to self-destruct. They were taking my soul, my money, my everything.”
Now, Priscilla’s decision has come down to the family.
A source said:
“Lisa Marie leaving made it hard for Priscilla. They are very close as a family and leaving the church has been a family decision.”
Other celebrities have left the church in recent years. Some of those left quietly, like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes and Mimi Rogers.
Leah Remini, who famously left the church in 2013, took a different approach and went on to write a tell-all book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology.
