It is a city decimated by poverty
Blackpool has one of the worst rates of male suicide in the UK, and one ward the lowest male life expectancy in England.
Once a thriving hotspot for sun-seeking tourists, the city’s famous Golden Mile now sometimes has more fly-tipped rubbish than tourists.
We joined the Labour candidate for Blackpool North, Chris Webb, on a tour of the area to better understand why there are such high levels of poverty.
There, we met Daz, who does his day job on the bins then comes back to help the homeless people he’s seen when work is over.
Daz is a British hero doing all he can to help those pushed into poverty by austerity.
