A man’s gotta eat.
If you’re a keen student of the Internet, there’s a good chance you’ve heard about one man’s desperate plea to American fast food restaurant Wendy’s for chicken nuggets that viral in the last week.
In case you’re unaware, Twitter user Carter Wilkinson asked Wendy’s how many retweets it would require for him to be granted a year’s supply of free chicken nuggets.
“A man needs his nuggs.” We’ve all been there, Carter.

Probably thinking that nothing would come of it, the person in charge of the Wendy’s account replied with a figure of 18 million.
Most people would have considered that an insurmountable obstacle, but Carter saw it as a challenge.
Less than one week later, Carter’s tweet has attracted, at the time of writing, over 2,608,550 retweets, ranking it as the second most retweeted tweet of all time behind, you’ve guessed it, the iconic Oscar selfie tweeted by Ellen DeGeneres at the Academy Awards ceremony in 2014.

Given the rate at which it is attracting retweets and the huge publicity it has received around the world, Carter’s tweet looks likely to become the most retweeted tweet ever in the very near future and while the figure of 18 million retweets still appears hugely ambitious, you couldn’t rule it out either.
We’re sure Wendy’s aren’t exactly bothered by the exposure they’ve received throughout this episode either; in fact, they’ve been retweeting encouragement for Carter from their official account by other major brands and from Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul in recent days.

Surely, they’re going to give the guy the chicken nuggets regardless of whether he reaches the target or not, right?
Right?
