Here’s why you shouldn’t drink coffee right before a job interview

JOE

When going for an important job interview, you’ll want to do all you can to give yourself the best possible chance of success.

It can be very difficult to control your nerves and pretend you’re cool, calm and collected, but there are certain steps you can take to help the situation.

One of the best pieces of advice is to avoid coffee, which is one of the worst culprits for making you jittery and upping the pre-interview fear.

Speaking to ELLE (don’t ask us why we were reading it), nutritionist Sara Vance has recommended drinking a cup of green tea as it will give you a caffeine hit while also calming you down, thanks to its L-Theanine component.

There’s less caffeine than a standard coffee order and, as Vance explains: “It will provide energy, but won’t make you jittery”.

In addition, to avoid your stomach grumbling during the all-important meeting, dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade told the publication that a snack rich in carbohydrates will help settle you down.

She suggests opting for a banana, some whole-grain cereal and/or yogurt as this will “prevent hunger while providing you with the energy and mental clarity to ace the interview”. The rest is up to you.
