How often do you shower? You’re almost certainly doing it too much

Washout?

Alan Loughnane

A lot of people cannot begin their day without a long hot shower to clear both their mind and body.

However, according to TIME, a daily shower might be too much for your body – because washing your skin with water and soap everyday can dry out the skin, causing cracks that lead to infections. It also strips your skin of the natural oils that keep it healthy.

Societal norms dictate that the majority of people will bathe regularly; but, for strictly hygienic reasons, a shower once or twice a week is enough for your body.

This, of course, depends on what kind of lifestyle you have. If you go jogging daily and hit the gym regularly, then once or twice a week just isn’t going to cut it for you.

Dr. C. Brandon Mitchell, assistant professor of dermatology at George Washington University, said: “I tell patients who shower daily not to lather their whole bodies.

“Hit your pits, butt, and groin, which are the areas that produce strong-smelling secretions. The rest of your body doesn’t need much soaping.”

Hmm. Are you convinced?
