Although we’ve all heard that old ‘you’re never far from a rat’ saying, the idea of finding one rummaging around your property is the stuff of nightmares for many of us Brits.
Thankfully such rodents are known to keep a low profile, which is just as well given the discovery made by this London gas engineer.
Tony Smith was working close to Hackney Downs in the north of the capital, when he spotted this gigantic rat in a bush near a children’s playground. Luckily for him, the thing was dead.
The creature is said to be around four foot long from nose to the tip of its tail.
If you ever needed a reason to make sure your bin lid was closed, this is it.
