Hair loss can be a source of great stress for many men…
Are there more hairs in your drain over the past couple of months? Are there more of them on your desk in work? Or stuck to the inside of your hat?
Well, according to new research from the British Journal of Dermatology, there’s nothing for you to worry about, you’re not on the road to complete baldness just yet… probably.
Their study suggests that shedding more hair in the Summer and Autumn is natural, and state that seasonal hair loss is normal.
Researchers are John Hopkins and Washington University looked at trends data in four areas with high searches of the words “hair loss”. They found that people searched for the words far more frequently for phrases relating to hair loss in Summer and Autumn.
“Mildly increased hair loss in the summer and fall is normal,” co-author Shawn Kwatra, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, told Health. “This is speculative, but from an evolutionary perspective, one of the roles of hair loss is to provide warmth.
“This would be less necessary during the summer months.”
The researchers said that more studies need to be carried out to determine exactly why this pattern occurs but, for now, we’re willing to accept the thought that it’s down to evolution.
So no need to go researching hairpieces just yet…
