The Bristol pub pays tribute to regular local who sadly passed away during lockdown
Beer gardens, non-essential shops and various other businesses reopened this past Monday and whilst we are over the moon to be steadily getting some semblance of normality back, not everyone is so fortunate.
The Huntsman, Generous George Downend (also known as the Taverners Downend) shared some sombre news on their official Facebook page on Monday, informing its patrons and punters that one of its regulars had sadly passed away since they had been closed.

Simply known as Stan, it was discovered by the bar staff that he had passed away in the months since they were last open on November 3rd. Perhaps the most gut-wrenching part is that he had told them he was “going to be the first one back” when the pub re-opened. That one hit right in the feels.
While he was unable to have his wish, the landlord and staff paid a touching tribute in honour of Stan, by ensuring that the first pint poured from their freshly topped up taps was for him. A fitting commemoration.
The comments section is particularly lovely and heartwarming, with both people who knew him and strangers paying their respects – some people even discovering that he may have repair relatives’ cars as a local welder.
RIP Stan – we’ll pour one out in your name.
