A robot that managed to hitchhike its way through Canada has been vandalised and destroyed just two weeks into its attempt to cross America.
The robot – known as hitchBOT – crossed Canada in just 26 days last year and was attempting to make a similar trip from Massachusetts to San Francisco.
Unfortunately, just two weeks into its trip, the creators of hitchBOT were sent a picture of the destroyed robot from somewhere in Philadelphia.

During its travels, hitchBOT attended a wedding and survived a week with a heavy metal band, taking a picture every 20 minutes or so in order to detail its journey.
Although the robot does contain a GPS device, it is untraceable as its battery has died.
Oh dear, my body was damaged, but I live on with all my friends. Sometimes bad things happen to good robots! #hitchBOTinUSA

In fairness, there were some warning signs that people in Philadelphia aren’t too fond of science…
