Smell the coffee and wake up: Tens of thousands raised to fund scent-based alarm clock

Tom Victor

If you’re tired of your usual high-pitched alarm clock, we scents you’ll like this new invention.

A French teenager, Guillaume Rolland, has raised more than €122,000 (that’s almost £90,000) from crowdfunding site Kickstarter to make Sensorwake – a smell-based wake-up call – a reality.

The device, which was named one of Google’s 15 inventions that can “change the world”, pipes a selection of smells into the atmosphere, as a peaceful alternative to a shrill alarm.

Among the options available at launch are ‘continental breakfast’ (coffee and croissant), ‘American breakfast’ (bacon and freshly-squeezed orange juice), or ‘lush jungle’ (cut grass and leaves).

If you’re waking up to the smell of bacon it could be an idea to make sure you have the real thing in the fridge.
Otherwise you might want to go straight back to bed.
