This could change the way we see everything.
If their recent hiring posts are any indication, Snapchat could be developing a new kind of “smart” glasses, similar to Google Glass.
As reported by CNET, the social media company have been making a number of hires that show they’re interested in wearable smart tech. Snapchat can now count among its ranks a dozen employees who have experience in wearables, as well as designers who have worked for Nokia and Logitech.
Two years ago Snapchat also purchased Vergence Labs, a startup company that makes Google Glass-like eyewear that records video of what the wearer is looking at with the touch of a button.
If all those great minds are indeed developing smartglasses, then we could one day see a pair of glasses that could instantly record, upload and share whatever you’re looking at.
Or imagine a pair of Snapchat-produced smart glasses that work similar to virtual-reality headsets such as Oculus Rift or the new Samsung Gear VR coming out later this year.
It’s shaping up to be a promising 2016 for wearable “smart” technology – who’d have thought it’d take Snapchat to make wearing glasses trendy again?
