Instagram has announced that it recently reached the milestone of 500 million monthly users, which is certainly a cause for celebration.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO, owner and founder of Instagram’s developer Facebook posted a whimsical celebratory picture of himself, marking the achievement.
However, one Twitter user noticed a few creepy quirks about the way Zukcerberg sets his laptop up that might have some implications for our privacy- and perhaps a hint that we should be taking ours more seriously.
Thanks to Edward Snowden, we all know that the USA’s National Security Agency have a habit of gathering info about US citizens by monitoring their phone and online activity. While there is always a privacy issue with the amount of applications which request access to things like your webcam and computer mic.
This might be why Mark Zuckerberg:
- Puts tape over his laptop’s webcam
- Puts tape over the laptop’s microphone
- Uses an email platform with government-grade security features

Considering the issues Facebook users have had with the company’s intimate knowledge of their private details, some might be suspicious to see Zuckerberg be more shut off about his own.
To be fair, Zuckerberg probably has more reason than most of us to fear being hacked, but do you think you’ll follow his lead?
