It has now been over a month since a 5p charge was introduced for plastic carrier bags in England.
While the country has not degraded into the post-apocalyptic hellscape we were promised, we have seen at least one person attempt to balance a tower of groceries rather than pay the charge every time we go shopping now.
Thankfully, at least one Tesco has found a very simple (and obvious) way around charging customers 5p for a plastic bag, by offering free paper bags.
Sure paper bags aren’t as sturdy or reusable, but they can be recycled much easier and are less harmful to the environment. So next time you do you shop, don’t be confused if the cashier asks you: “Paper or plastic?” after you’ve already paid.
