Writing cards is a nice way to show someone you’re thinking of them, but it can be such a ballache.
It’s hard enough remembering people’s birthdays and anniversaries, let alone having to go out, buy a card, write the bloody thing and then stick an address and stamp on it and hope it arrives on time.
While it’s so much easier just to send a text or Facebook message, The Queen diligently continues the tradition of sending out cards to her loyal subjects for their special occasions.
Her Majesty still posts out cards for 100th and 105th birthdays and beyond as well as 60th, 65th, and 70th wedding anniversaries (and any further milestones).
During her 64-year reign, the monarch is believed to have sent out more than a million celebration cards…and with an ageing population, the workload is only going to go up and up.
So The Queen is now looking for someone to do the very personal job of writing and sending out all of her well-wishing cards.
She’s looking for an ‘assistant anniversaries officer’ to deal with the piles of thousands of cards that need sending out every year.
If you’re up for the job, it pays £21,000 a year and you’ll be working at Buckingham Palace – not a bad at all, although more than 50,000 cards were sent out by HRH in 2014 alone, so you’ll have your work cut out.
The job spec on the Royal website read as follows:
“It’s sending congratulations that are never forgotten.
“It’s working in a team with a shared and unique purpose, engaging with the public whilst supporting The Queen’s role.
“This is what makes working for The Royal Household so exceptional.
“The Anniversaries Team helps to produce congratulatory messages that provide a vital link between The Queen and the public.
“You’ll prepare and send out messages that mean so much to so many people.
“Your challenge will be to remain focused whilst processing a large number of requests for messages, ensuring that the right response is delivered at exactly the right time.
“You’ll check eligibility for each query, and using a data entry system, you’ll be 100% accurate with every congratulatory message response.
“You’ll be proud of the number of messages you send out, which will drive you to consistently deliver high standards.”
You’ve got until the end of October to apply. Send your application in right here if this job is up your street.
