In a scenario that seems an awful lot like the grown-up adventures of Kevin McAllister, Mr. Robert Chernow ended up in Chicago completely on his own when a flight carrying all of his his friends got cancelled.

Even worse, Robert was supposed to be on a stag do ahead of his friend Jake’s wedding. The groom-to-be was on the cancelled flight along with the rest of the entourage. Undeterred, Robert pressed on with the stag do on his own,  using the hashtag #chicagoforone to chart his experience on Instagram.

His first post seemed optimistic enough, as he looked forward to the Chicago Bears game.

But as his trip continued, Robert’s facial expressions began to tell a story of a man that was very much missing his friends.

His experience was now so sad that even the people that were initially taking pity on him were beginning to give him a wide berth.

This is Michelle. Her and her family sat next to me on the boat (the seats that my friends would’ve been occupying had they made it here). She showed genuine remorse for my situation – So much so that she gave me a mini bottle of Cabernet before telling her kids “let’s go sit somewhere else and let the sad man be alone”. With his adventure in the Windy City being picked up by the media, Robert’s poor luck was not changing.

But his experiments on Tinder appeared to be bearing fruit…

But he was still looking blue. Literally.

This is Ray. He was the captain of my water taxi. After hearing my story he insisted I wear a life vest to ensure my safety. Accordingly to him “you must live in order to keep the bachelor party dream alive”. Thanks, Ray! He even managed to be the only person at some of Chicago’s normally busy spots.

Even the weather was against him, as the fog spoiled his view from the top of the John Hancock tower.

Next came a trip to a park….

According to my cab driver, James, Chicago has some of the most beautiful parks in the world. “They’re a great place to get some sun and meet new friends. You could probably even join a frisbee game if you’re timings right”. Thanks, James! #chicagoforone

…but thankfully, the story has a happy ending. Jake, the stag himself, finally arrives.

This is Jake. He’s the bachelor who’s party I’ve been celebrating. After spending 40+ hrs in flight purgatory he has finally arrived and was so excited that he couldn’t help scream “thanks for making my weekend all about you”. You’re welcome, Jake…welcome to your bachelor party! #chicagowithfriends On a side note – I’d like to thank everyone for their unwavering support in my time of loneliness. Chicago is an amazing city with even more amazing people. I’ve had 2 days to experience this first hand and now I’m asking that you show the bachelor the same hospitality! He’s been cooped up in a hotel in Queens since yesterday and now only has 48 hrs to make up for lost time! I’ll keep posting where we are and if you can come meet up, have a drink and help us give him the best damn bachelor party ever! Thanks, everyone!
