We’ll be trying this out.
As the saying goes, ‘you learn something new every day’ and it seems like we’re learning about this hotel hack along with the rest of the internet.
One Twitter user has single-handedly blown the minds of the internet by sharing a little hack they learned on their last hotel stay.
Sharing a picture of the light and power switches inside the door of their hotel room, @Oog unveiled a hack that we’ll definitely be using from now on.
Wanted to charge my battery pack whilst I was I eating dinner, but needed my keycard pic.twitter.com/TsHqihGxTu

“Wanted to charge my battery pack whilst I was I eating dinner, but needed my keycard,” read the caption on the picture of a random loyalty card in the power switch.
The post naturally left many jaws on the floor (including ours) thanks to the simplicity of the hack.
What? You can put ANY card in the hotel light thing? What the hell?! I’ve been locking my bloody room in the bloody dark for HOW LONG?! https://t.co/rkouY8yntf

I… I always thought the cards had some kind of magic digital code thingy in them. https://t.co/Av8G6mQmcm

The post has quickly gone viral in the less-than-24 hours since it was posted, with many promising to try it out on their next night away.
However, this wasn’t news to everyone and those that were already aware of the trick took the opportunity to gloat about the secret they’d been keeping for years.
Hotel staff told me that you could put any old card in this thing – it’s just to hold down a switch at the bottom. I had sworn to take the secret to the grave, but https://t.co/TDb7DA7M5f

I use old rail tickets – so doesn’t matter if you leave them accidentally
