Visitors to one Scottish island were in for a surprise, thanks to a missing accent on a road sign.
Rather than welcoming people to “the beauty of the isle of Bute”, the mix-up in the Gaelic translation meant those arriving by ferry would be greeted by a sign showing off “beautiful penis island”.
“It makes us look bloody stupid,” councillor Len Scouller told the Daily Record, while Àdhamh Ó Broin, Gaelic language consultant on TV show Outlander, had something to add on the subject too.
“It’s meant to be the genitive clause, not the genital clause,” he said.
We bet he’d been saving that one up for years.
