Adele turned down the Super Bowl half-time show in the most Adele way possible

"I mean, come on..."

Declan Cashin

If there’s one thing you can count on from Adele, it’s for her to tell it like it is, with no airs and graces.

That’s her style, and the world bloody adores her for it.

For the past week, rumour has it (sorry) that Adele was being lined up to perform during the half-time show during next year’s Super Bowl final in the US.

That gig has become one of the biggest, most high-profile and, one can imagine, insanely lucrative slots in all of entertainment.

You’ll remember, of course, that previous headliners include Beyonce…

…Madonna…

…Coldplay…

…and the late, great Prince.

But Adele isn’t interested in the opportunity. She told her concert audience in Los Angeles on Saturday night that she was, indeed, asked to perform at the event in Houston, Texas, next February.

She then explained why she turned down the offer.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she said. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I’m sorry, but maybe next time.”

A classy response, in the “it’s not you, it’s me” mould.

Needless to say, the internet loves the singer for her polite but blunt assessment of the situation.

So who will take the prestigious half-time slot at the Super Bowl? Several names are still doing the rounds, including Britney Spears, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna.
