Kanye West’s endorsement of Donald Trump and the MAGA hat continues to anger the Hip Hop community
Last night Kanye West performed on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live. Performing “I Love It” with Lil Pump, “We Got Love” with Teyana Taylor, and then breaking SNL tradition by performing a third song, “Ghost Town” with KiD CuDi and 070 Shake. He then ended the show with a pro-Donald Trump rant/sermon.
Cut from the broadcast, Kanye defended his support of Donald Trump, saying “So many times I talk to a white person and [they] say, ‘How could you like Trump, he’s racist?’ Well, if I was concerned about racism I would have moved out of America a long time ago.”
“You wanna see the sunken place? Okay, Im’a listen to y’all now,” he continued, referencing the Get Out memes and jokes that have been made about him following his recent political turn. “I’ma put my Superman cape on, because this means you can’t tell me what to do… You want the world to move forward? Try love.”
While all of this was going on Kanye could be seen wearing the now infamous MAGA hat, much to the disappointment of the Hip Hop community, including producer Swizz Beatz who spoke up about it in an Instagram post this morning.
“I just seen that SNL, Kanye,” Swizz begins, addressing Kanye West directly. “And I hear you talking about being bullied for the hat. It feels kinda funny because we were just talking about the hat less than 48 hours ago.”
Going on to list some people that were in the studio with him during the discussion, including Kanye’s own artist Teyana Taylor, Swizz then says: “I was just addressing how uncomfortable the culture feels with you representing somebody who’s blatantly hurting our people.”
Swizz then added, “Ain’t nobody bullying you, we love you,” before playing a beat he made that repeats the phrase: “Fuck the MAGA hat.”
