Suspected poacher killed by elephant and then eaten by lions

“A  pride of lions had devoured the remains leaving only a human skull and a pair of pants.”

The remains of a suspected rhino poacher that was trampled on by an elephant and then eaten by a pride of lions at Kruger National Park, South Africa, has been discovered.

It’s believed that the man and his accomplices entered the park in order to poach rhinos on 2 April , according to South African National Parks.

The family of the deceased were called by his accomplices who then notified them that their relative had died.

A search party went looking for the man’s remains and they discovered that a pride of lions had devoured his body. Only a human skull and a pair of trousers were left.

The managing executive of the park has since extended his condolences to the family.

Glenn Phillips, Managing Executive of Kruger National Park, has praised those who were part of the search party that helped the family find closure by finding the remains. Mr. Phillips also extended his condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

“Entering Kruger National Park illegally and on foot is not wise, it holds many dangers and this incident is evidence of that. It is very sad to see the daughters of the deceased mourning the loss of their father, and worse still, only being able to recover very little of his remains,” he said.

As for the suspected poacher’s accomplices, four individuals were also arrested and they’re currently in police custody.

They’re set to appear in court soon.
