Bernie Sanders says he will run again for 2020 US presidency, a second attempt to be nominated for Democratic Party.
US Senator Bernie Sanders has raised $6m since yesterday morning after he announced his 2020 presidential campaign.
His campaign said it has raised more than $4m after 12 hours of launching. More than 225,000 people have contributed to his Democratic bid.
Previously, the biggest first-day fundraiser in the race had been Kamala Harris, who raised $1.5 million in the first 24 hours of her campaign.
He described the current president Donald Trump “a racist, a sexist, a xenophobe and a fraud” after Trump tweeted “Crazy Bernie has just entered the race. I wish him well”.
The 77-year-old Vermont senator released an email on Tuesday morning saying he will make his second attempt to win the Democratic Party’s nomination for 2020 presidency.
“I’m running for president because a great nation is judged not by how many billionaires and nuclear weapons it has, but by how it treats the most vulnerable – the elderly, the children, our veterans, the sick and the poor,” he said.
I'm running for president. I am asking you to join me today as part of an unprecedented and historic grassroots campaign that will begin with at least 1 million people from across the country. Say you're in: https://t.co/KOTx0WZqRf pic.twitter.com/T1TLH0rm26

Sanders’s video has been viewed over 5 million times and retweeted nearly 94,000 times on Twitter, at time of writing.
The independent self-styled Democratic socialist told CBS This Morning that he is confident to win the 2020 presidency.
“But the bottom line for me is, I think, it is absolutely imperative that Donald Trump be defeated.
“Because I think it is unacceptable and un-American, to be frank with you, that we have a president who is a pathological liar,” he said.
In 2016, Sanders lost the Democratic primary to former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
