Car crash filmed in the background as BBC report Ant McPartlin court verdict

You couldn't make this up

You couldn’t make this up.

BBC News were covering Ant McPartlin’s trial for drink driving when a car crash took place outside the courtroom and immediately behind the journalist reporting live on air.

The footage has since been uploaded to Twitter and was a case of very bad timing. You can clearly see one vehicle come out of nowhere and plow into the back of another, causing a line of cars to temporarily come to a standstill.

The driver of the car may have been distracted by the police presence and crowd of people surrounding Wimbledon Magistrates Court, where the television presenter was found guilty of drink driving and was sentenced to a 20 month ban and fined £86,000 earlier today.

As you can see, it appears nobody was hurt in the incident.

In a statement today, read by his lawyer, McPartlin apologised for his actions and said he was “ashamed and mortified” by what he had done. He responded ‘guilty’ to a single charge of driving while over the limit after he was breathalysed by police three weeks ago after a crash involving three vehicles.

He was found to have 75mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, whilst the legal limit is 35 mcg.
