Police put terminal on lockdown after ‘suspicious’ item found
Manchester airport was locked down on Wednesday night after a suspicious package with an unusual amount of wiring was found during a search.
Passengers were held on planes and prevented from disembarking while police officers inspected the item in terminal two.
A controlled explosion was carried out but the item was deemed non-suspicious after examination.
The airport’s operations have since returned to normal.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 5.45pm on Wednesday 25 April 2018, police were called to reports of a suspicious item at Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport.
“Officers attended and on examination of the item requested the assistance of the bomb disposal unit.
“A controlled explosion has been carried out as a precaution, and the cordon has been lifted.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. Enquiries are ongoing.”
