Could the new iPhone be the first of its kind to be waterproof?

JOE

You can’t blame iPhone users for being a little bit sceptical when a story surfaces about an iPhone being waterproof.

Back in 2013, an official-looking advert informed iPhone users that the iOS7 update would make Apple devices impervious to H20. Incredibly, plenty of people didn’t realise that this was in fact a hoax and destroyed their iPhones as they tested out the supposed feature.

Three years on, nothing has changed in that regard. But that hasn’t stopped some speculating that the next device, the iPhone 7, could finally be water-resistant.

Having acquired a patent for ‘liquidmetal’ in 2010, some, including designer Herman Haidin, are suggesting that the new iPhone could be the first of its kind to be constructed using the alloy.

Haidin imagines an iPhone made from liquidmetal in a series of concept designs that can be seen on Behance.net.

It might seem a little far-fetched, but we’re sure this won’t be the last time we hear such a rumour as we wait for the release of the iPhone 7.
