The iOS update will fix a limited number of phones that had been affected since Apple released their new models last month.
Considering they were only launched to much fanfare last month, it was a little early for things to start going wrong with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus when it emerged recently that a limited number of the new models were affected by a crackling noise during phone calls.
According to The Verge, the issue was reported by owners of both models on several Apple forums and only surfaced occasionally during ordinary phone calls and Facetime calls; Apple acknowledged the issue and confirmed that a “small number” of phones had been affected.
That small number could and should now be reduced to zero thanks to the latest iOS update, iOS 11.0.2, which became available today, October 3 and addresses the following issues.
- Fixes an issue where crackling sounds may occur during calls for a small number of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices
- Addresses an issue that could cause some photos to become hidden
- Fixes an issue where attachments in S/MIME encrypted emails would not open
